EASY Step-by-Step Installation

Remove old steps OR dig a new hole slightly larger than the RockStep and at least four inches deep. The method of digging you want to use is called skimming, this is where the dirt is skimmed from the opening while leaving it undisturbed in the bottom for a firm foundation.

Pour and tamp down gravel into hole. Level the area where the RockSteps will be placed and measure the dimensions of your area to ensure the size is correct for your stones.
NOTE: a concrete base may also be used. Please check your local codes and restrictions.

Wheel or carry RockSteps to the installation area. The lightweight stone allows for easy transportation to an area difficult for heavy machinery.

Set the RockStep in place. Level step side-to-side while allowing a slight pitch toward the front of the step. The slight pitch and the gravel base will allow proper water drainage on and around the RockStep. After the first step is installed, measure and dig the hole for your second RockStep and repeat above process for each step being installed. Now, admire the results.

Tools Required: Shovel or spade, level, tape measure, work gloves, safety glasses, hand tamper (optional).

Backyard Stairs - Case Study

The project began with removing all of the grass where the steps were going to go and marking a line in the dirt as wide as the steps. Starting at the bottom, we dug out space for each step....
